
2003 Recipient: Dr. James D. Jamieson
Dr. James D. Jamieson was awarded the William Go Award by the American
Pancreatic Association in Chicago, November 7 2003 . This award
is given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions
to the field of pancreatic studies. Dr. Jamieson was recognized
for his leadership in National Organizations including his Presidency
of the American Society of Cell Biology and the American Pancreatic
Association. His outstanding academic achievements were also cited;
these included his position as Chair of the Department of Cell Biology
and Director of the MD, Ph.D. program at Yale University School
of Medicine. His abilities as an educator were recognized when he
was awarded the Bohmfalk prize as the outstanding basic science
teacher by the medical students at Yale University. Although a number
of scientific contributions were mentioned, Dr. Jamieson seminal
studies defining the protein synthetic pathway were highlighted.
These studies were performed during his doctoral and postdoctoral
training at the Rockefeller University under the direction of Dr.
George Palade. Finally, Dr. Jamieson was recognized for training
a number of investigators who currently hold academic positions
throughout the world.
